Established in 1984 as one of the first Indian restaurants in Melbourne at its time. Shahnai pioneered Bringing a true taste of India to Melbourne.  The highly acclaimed restaurant of Fitzroy was a favourite on the Brunswick street strip and loved by the masses.

In 1992, whilst still proving a small list of favourites on its food Menu, it geared the business more towards the Indian sweets market, and its current location at Preston. 

Over the past 30 years in Preston, Shahnai had been focusing on providing the Indian/Australian community with the true taste of Indian sweets as its speciality.

Our business, whilst ever growing, is now looking back at its roots in Melbourne to showcase our culinary flare at true Indian Cuisine much loved by our customer fan base.  With a new focus on growing our menu to include a wider eat in/take away menu range, our aim is to reinvent Shahnai as a food destination for lovers of great true Indian cusine.
